Chapter 3 documents

The document from chapter 3 I chose to blog about is Herodotus. The reason I chose Herodotus is because I feel like if I could be any person from history, i would be herodotus. Reason why is because he traveled everywhere to seek information about the specific place he's going. Herodotus was born to a wealthy Greek family. His life consisted of recording history. They say that he pretty much invented for the western world the craft of history the connection to research. Because of Herodotus, people today and historians learned about ancient life from descriptions that Herodotus wrote and described. Herodotus notices the cultural differences of the other cultures like Persia and Egypt.
He points out that persian fathers let go of their sons once they turn 5 so that if they die they wouldn't be saddened about it. For Egyptians, a cultural difference is seen by how they respond to a death of a family member. When a family member of an Egyptian family dies, the relatives let their beard and hairs grow very long. That is how they showed their grief towards the deaths that came at them. The posture Herodotus takes toward the differences is he expresses positive understanding of the two. He referred the persians as barbarians but I believe at that time they were meant as savage or uncivilized.
