Chapter 2 first civilizations
Chapter 2 is talking about ear civilizations that emerge around 3500 B.C.E. in three places. One was the middle east located in southern present day Iraq. That being said the Babylonian empire cam along right after the Xia dynasty. Another early civilization that emerged during 35000 B.C.E. came from north eastern Africa now known as Egypt. A city next to what is now called Egypt named Norte Chico
which was located in the Supe River Valley. Norte Chico was a city smaller than those of Mesopotamia. I have never heard of the city of Norte Chico and didn't know it was close to Mesopotamia back in the day. Growing up in my family that cam from Mesopotamia never talked about a city called Norte Chico. I find it interesting how much history there is to be learned. To continue one in the chapter the narrator
talks about the hierarchy of class in the early civilization.
Upper classes enjoy great wealth in land, money, and avoided physical labor. This caused social inequality in early civilizations. Another
thing the narrator talks about is hierarchies of gender. Males and females were very different from each other. Men had legal and property rights and in general associated with masculinity. Women's roles both produced and reproductive all took place in their homes. The civilization of both Mesopotamia and Egypt grew up dependent on agriculture. Mesopotamia location helped it's people have a very nice environment. I believe agriculture and environment are things that make up how wealthy and powerful an ancient civilization can be. The rest of this chapter continues talking about early Egypt and the cities around it. Civilizations today have learned and grown from ancient civilizations.
